Unpacking The Asian Model Minority Myth Through Critical Race Theory
Who Should Take This Course
This course is for anyone seeking to understand how even positive stereotypes place limitations on our full, differentiated expression of ourselves. Presented from the perspective of an Asian American woman, she explains the relationship between the “model minority myth” and silence: “Of the different voices in which I speak, I have been most comfortable with the one called silence. Silence allowed me to escape notice when I was a child. I could become invisible, and hence safe.”
What You Will Learn
You will examine how perpetuating this myth further fosters systemic racism, promotes inter-racism, and ultimately perpetuates white dominance. We will also explore how overlooking this perspective can impact our abilities to deepen our understanding in becoming anti-racists leader and how we can change the narrative.
