CRC is a one-year leadership and mentoring program (recommended for cohorts of 8+) to prepare educators, equity specialists and other school personnel to develop culturally competent learning content, practices and strategies to more effectively address the needs of an increasingly diverse student body.

This certification program prepares participants to communicate to others the knowledge, skills, and supportive coaching and engagement needed to create supportive, inclusive communities of learners. We are readying educators to meet the urgent demand of diverse student populations.

Certification training includes:

  • Face-to-Face Trainings
  • Online courses
  • Webinars
  • Mentoring/Coaching
  • Online community

Face-to-Face

One 6-hour training of Let’s Talk About Race (LTAR). This training provides the theoretical framework and foundation to begin your journey of self-reflection. Participants will engage in an exploration of diversity issues that districts face today, identify where and why districts fall short in adequately attending to these issues, and present strategies to overcome the barriers that inhibit or stop dialogue and necessary actions. Finally, you will self-assess your personal history and beliefs to help you understand and effectively resolve your triggers.

Online Courses

Four courses comprise the online study. They provide a comprehensive and engaging foundation to prepare educators to reflect on existing competencies, broaden cultural competencies, and integrate new strategies to increase their cultural capacity both inside and outside the classroom. Each online course will have a 1-hour live webinar at the midway point to work with participants to deepen their understanding of the content and answer any questions that arise through interacting with the content.

The four courses are:

Bullying and Protected Classes: Understanding the Overlap Between Federal and State law Requirements

What You’ll Learn

  • Develop strategies to implement the AB 9 bulling prevention requirements.
  • Understand what is the legally required response when the bullying implicates a protected class, such as race, gender identity, disability, etc.
  • Understand federal and state anti-discrimination law requirements.
  • Receive guidance and clarity regarding the response required by a district to ensure compliance with both sets of laws and to minimize the likelihood of the Office for Civil Rights finding a compliance violation.
  • Review sample UCP and Bullying policies that will ensure that your district is in compliance.

Culturally Relevant Pedagogy

What You’ll Learn

  • Improve communication to strengthen your capacity to have honest and compassionate dialogue to positively impact students’ learning experience and lives.

What You’ll Learn

  • Identify exclusionary language that is commonly used (e.g. “non-white”).
  • Learn practical ways to remedy exclusionary language in the workplace.
  • Understand the impact of “non-ness” language and attitudes on diverse groups.

Teaching White: Exploring How Race Impacts the Relationship Between Teachers and Students

What You’ll Learn

  • Explore the ways in which unconscious bias and stereotyping affect the relationships between teachers and students, teachers and parents, and teachers and other educators.
  • Take part in shaping a strategic roadmap to uncover your own bias, define or redefine your racial and ethnic identity, and investigate the ways that school rewards some students but not others.
  • Develop a personal plan of action to interrupt the predictable disproportionality in outcomes for students of colors.

Mentoring/Coaching

Online resources are available via our website year round as well as access to a forum created exclusively for participants in this certification training. As part of each course’s curriculum, you’ll be provided with prompts or simple, but thoughtful exercises to move you toward a deeper awareness of how you can most authentically integrate cultural competency into your practice.

During your online study and throughout the year, you’ll be able to join with other educators online to share your successes and insights as you continue to put into practice the CRC training.

Face-to-Face

One three-hour workshop will be offered after completion of the online study and once participants have had an opportunity to begin to implement what they have learned into their daily lives.
