Who Should Take This Course
Anyone who wants to get over their fear of personally or professionally "saying the wrong thing" should take this course. Microaggressions are the unintentional things we say that just rub people the wrong way. Sometimes it registers in the subtle, passive language that reinforces a stereotype, "You're from Texas?" said in disbelief to an Asian-American born and bred in Texas. Or denouncing the cultural norms of others, "That food stinks!," said to an Indian-American who just heated up leftovers in the office microwave.
What You Will Learn
These are the little things that, over time, invalidates others' experiences or indicates disapproval of someone's differences. In this course we take a nonjudgmental look at ourselves and others so we can take the first steps needed to overcome some of the micro-challenges that prevent us from truly connecting with one another.
We also use Epoch Conversation Starters and role play to help us practice common scenarios people have shared with us over the years.
